“May he send you help from his sanctuary and strengthen you from Jerusalem” ( Psalm 20:2).
So often we find God sending His people out on a mission to accomplish His work. The person sent might not only feel inadequate but also lonely. Yet, what we often see is when God sends someone on a mission not only does He equip him with necessary gifts but also provides company where necesary.
Such was the case when Moses was called up from the bush to lead the Israelites out of Egypyt. Speaking up to pursuade a fierce absolute monarch was no easy call. So Moses confidently shared his doubts, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue” ( Exodus 4: 10). The Lord’s answer was: “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you” ( vv 14).
Once David entered the royal household of King Saul, it was new territory for a once herdsboy, and one full of palace intrigues. But look who comes up to David’s rescue. “After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return home to his family. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself” ( I Samuel 1:1-4). Prince Jonathan would be David’s firm supporter through to the end of his life, once helping him survive an assasination attempt ( I Samuel 20).
The newly saved Saul notorous for persecuting Believers was fearful of meeting his former captives and needed someone to open doors. Ahead of him the Lord had already stationed someone. “The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” ( Acts 9:11-12). Quite apprehensive once Saul got up to Annanias’s house, he was encouraged: “Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit” ( vv 17).
Just as these, you too might be on a journey, where you are trying to feel your whereabouts. Perhaps you feel inadequate and are need of back up support. The Lord is much aware and He will reinforce you with all the support you need for victory.
Prayer today. Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, you who has called me to your work I know where I am weak you have enabled by sending back up support which I am thankful for, and through this team effort lead me to victory, this I pray in Jesus’s name.
