“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” - 2 Timothy 4:7 (ESV)

Before he met Christ Saul had one purpose in life. It was to pursue believers in Christ and exterminate them. Consumed with hate for believers, assured in the righteousness of his mission, Saul would move everywhere hunting down Christians. He oversaw the martyrdom of the Stephen (Acts 6:8) before moving on to fetch more believers and put them to the sword.

Then Saul met Christ on the road to Damascus. “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me.. I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting” (Acts 9: 4-5). Convicted, his entire purpose now turned around from one who hunts Christians to a fisher of Christ followers. Saul now became a Paul. For the remainder of his life Paul had only one driving ambition to preach the Gospel where it had never been heard before.

Paul’s life shows that first one could have a purpose but a futile one. Before all what drove the life of Saul was a vain purpose to destroy the work of God and which he totally failed. There are many people who without knowing God still wake up everyday and exhaust their energies in many like vain ambitions.

But once he met Christ Paul’s life turned around completely to live now a purpose for something higher and he would live never forget. This is why he ends his life by saying, “I have fought a good fight!”

The question today is what is your purpose in life! Have you found and are living that good purpose as became of Paul. Or, like Saul are traveling on a misguided road until you meet Jesus!

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham in heaven, today I humbly pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that I live a purposeful life of making your name known!
