"God, your God, will restore everything you lost; he'll have compassion on you; he'll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered" - Deuteronomy 30:3 (NIV).

Two women had a claim over one baby. They all insisted it was theirs. But a baby can only belong to one mother. They had to be a legitimate mother but both were at each others throats for the baby. So, as it were, they took this case to a young king called Solomon. King Solomon had just asked God for wisdom and this was going to be his first major test of settling a seemingly intractable case. Something funny then happened.

After both women had pleaded that the baby belonged to one, "the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So they brought a sword for the king. He then gave an order: “Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other" (1 King 3: 24-25). You know what happened! Well, that's when the true mother emerged. "The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king, “Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don’t kill him!" (vv 26). Meanwhile, the impositor spat, "Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!”

It was so clear. No real mother would wish her son split like a banana. "Then the king gave his ruling: “Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother" (vv 27).

What we see here is that the true owner was ready to surrender her own. You know what, when you surrender something God has given you, it will surely come back. Sometimes we fret too much for nothing when thieves run away with our possessions. They won't last. If God has given you something of value, and there comes that thief who dares to snatch it away, well just know what is of yours God will surely hand back to you, in good time. Just as He did for this mother!

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, where the enemy has sought to snatch what belongs to me I surrender all to you, knowing you will keep and return all that belongs to me, this I pray in Jesus's name.
