“I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my Saviour; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies" - Psalm 18:1-3 (NIV)

Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro rise above all their surroundings, being immovable against winds of all power. There are a majestic tower of strength and natives around always look up to them for inspiration. Our Christian faith should be like of mountains not easily knocked down by winds, be of whatever trials or upheavals.

Interesting around these mountains sinks the famous savannah belt of the tropics. Because of scarce rainfall the savannah is dominated with grasses and shrubs. All those who have felt winds pushing through the savannah know they easily sweep through those yellow grasses and thorny shrubs, which offer little resistance. Except for the mighty baobab; trees in the savannah have no strong bark and are easily tossed aside. If there is a wildlife taking cover from a predator, it always tremors, because of a thin and easily shaken cover.

Our faith in God can also be like that of the grass and shrubs of the savannah. When the winds come, we bend low and scatter, as is common with dry grass. There is hardly any stand. No one can rely on so easily swept vegetation, for any protection. Today we might seem to possess territory but once the winds come then we are history.

There is no life that can’t be subjected to winds. The winds we face can be in form of financial crises. There can be winds of disappointment from job losses. There are winds of terror brought on to us when relationships break down. We can face winds of health crisis.

The question is, when these winds come, as they sure always do, with their varied power, where is our faith? Is it like of mountains or the grass and shrubs of the savannah! May we be encouraged by 2 Samuel 22:2 : “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior…”

Prayer  for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, when faced with winds of trials and upheavals, I pray that my faith is like of mountains and not as of the grass and shrubs, easily knocked down, because you are my rock and fortress, this I pray in Jesus’s Name.
