“And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows” (Luke 12:7)

In the mysteries of the workings of God there are certain things He has revealed to us while some will ever be beyond our knowledge. One area quite clear is that right from creation God has set apart certain individuals for His will to be manifested. Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Samuel, David, Elijah, Nehemiah and more, were all set apart for his Kingdom. Hence, for example, Paul writes, “This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach his Good News ( Romans 1:1).

It is not just individuals but certain nations as well. Israel was curved out as a nation for God to reveal his workings with man. For this is what He said of her, “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." ( Exodus 19:5-6). The history of Israel from the liberation out of Egypt; dispersal after the fall of the wall due to disobedience; and restoration of hers as a modern state after a severe period of persecution culminating in the holocaust, points all to that prophecy!

Just as with heroic individuals and great nations; every child of God has been set apart for a specific purpose. What does it mean when Jeremiah writes, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5). Of course the message is clear- there is no life which is here by accident! All children of God are significant in God’s kingdom, specifically created to serve a particular purpose.

Of course in the midst of all that there is an enemy who is at work “day and night” seeking to thwart that purpose. The individuals God set apart, the nation of Israel and, any others, have all gone through intense attacks to wrest them away from God’s will. Your life is no different. Because God has set you apart there will always be a war to draw you away by the one who comes to “kill and destroy“ (John 10:10).

Not only should you know that you are special in the kingdom of God but also that there is a war to draw you away from Him. The weapon God has left in our hands is steadfast prayer. For Paul writes, “I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers ( I Timothy 1:3). That God has set you apart is not to take it for granted. Yet through prayers comes the power to enable you stay on course and full full His purposes.

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, how I thank you that you have set me apart for a special purpose, of which I pray you enable this truth to dawn on me, that I may hold on to it, serving you fully, this I pray in Jesus’s name.
