“Blessed are the peace makers, for they will be called sons of God” - Mat 5:9 (NIV)

Have you noticed there is a difference between peace makers and peace keepers? Peace keepers are those who are always anxious to cover up any apparent conflict such that there is a certain semblance of peace. They will ignore the causes of conflict and refrain from talking about any rising issues of discomfort. They just want to keep the peace.

But such peace may not be enduring. While it gives a picture of tranquility underneath there is often a tremor waiting to erupt. It’s like in a marriage where deep seated issues of misunderstandings are concealed only for one day matters to erupt! All along the picture of peace was a lie.

Peace makers acknowledge that true peace takes more than mere keeping up appearances. It takes work. Hard work. Peace makers are willing to address issues buried underneath, talk about them and find lasting solutions. Let us strive to be peace makers and not just peace keepers.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven today I pray that I work towards being a peace maker and not just a peace keeper.
