"The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations" - Jeremiah 4-5 (NIV).
It remains one of the most powerful verse in the scriptures and there is a reason. As we live in an increasingly self centred world, questions are always being raised, when life begins. This is often to achieve one purpose- make it easier to terminate "unwanted pregnancy"! The message Jeremiah received though makes it clear that God's purpose for us starts well in the womb, necessitating protecting the lives of the unborn!
When one knows that the Almighty God had a purpose for him well before he came to be two things can happen. First of all, every Christian should walk with a spring in his steps, for our lives here are not by accident. The Almighty God willed long before that we have life to be part of his amazing creation, in particular extend the kingdom of Christ. Everyday of our lives we should live with pride happy that we are here fulfilling God's plans for our lives and all His creation.
The purposes of God will always be resisted. And there is an enemy who seeks to thwart God's purpose short of taking life. John 10:10 says, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life,and have it to the full". Of recent I came across a situation where a child raised in a Christian home had started doing drugs and ended up nearly loosing his life due to overdose. This is exactly the work of the enemy to steal God's purpose from his children, by destroying their lives.
Believers must always be on alert, like a good soldier, and not take that purpose lightly. We must know that right from conception forces are arraigned against us realising God's purpose. In life there are always distraction to steer us from that purpose. And those with children, even as they raise them in the things of God, the enemy is never at still but fighting for their spirit.
Today, thank God that you are not here by accident and there is a purpose for your life, which you should ask of God and He will gently reveal. Pray for our children too that they may remain true to God's purpose for their lives, thwarting all the enemy's wicked plans, "to kill and destroy"!
Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I thank you for the purpose of my life and I pray to ever realize it and the protection of all our children against the plans of the enemy to snatch your purpose away from them, this I pray in Jesus name!
