From shame to glory!

“Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours”( Isiah 61:7).

Shame is one of those conditions none would like to ever experience. In the Bible we find numerable instances of those who experienced shame. Take the case of Sarah. Married to a wealthy man she endured the pain and embarrassment that she could bear no child, to the point of even conceding a maid to let take her place ( Gen 16:2)!

Hannah is another case of someone who endured shame. Again she was childless but to make matters worse there was a rival- a co wife who would not let her go, “Peninnah teased Hannah to make her angry. She did it because the Lord had kept Hannah from having children”
(I Samuel 1:6)

There was also the case of the Lord Jesus. Rejected by his own people, he was handed on a cross quite naked, to the full view of the public spectacle.

Shame comes with certain pain and a sense of hopelessness. One of the beautiful things of faith in Christ is how the story ends. We know Sarah would eventually be honored with a baby boy: “Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised” ( Gen 21:1-2). Hannah eventually gave birth to Samuel ( Sam 1:20). And Christ triumphed over death through the resurrection.

You may being through a period of shame. But it is temporary and won’t last. Through trust in God as all these were the period of shame wil come to an end and God will be glorified!

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, where I feel shamed I looked up to your vindication and wait on you to glorify yourself, this I pray in Jesus’s name!
