“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Mathew 6:34).

In Uganda the National Examination Board has just released a timetable for examination. One can imagine a certain anxiety for those who are going to sit along with parents. And once they sit when results return depending on one’s performance there is bound to be heightened anxiety over where one would be admitted.

Anxiety is a common experience of everyday life. We are anxious whenever faced with a situation whose outcome is unclear. If you are in a job where changes are happening a certain anxiety may seep you. Are you going for a health check for that recurring pain, you will be anxious if this poses a greater danger! When you see rising cost of living against a fixed income, certainly you get anxious how you will manage.

When faced with anxiety the Apostle Paul admonishes us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” ! ( Philippians 4:6). For our anxieties can get the better part of us especially when we let them consume us, perhaps to a point of stillness. Yet here Paul advises us the best course of action is to bring “all these worries” to the feet of God. He will give us a certain peace.

Today, if you are anxious over any matter, well it’s only normal to feel so whenever you are uncertain over such. But rather than let such fears oppress you and affect your peace, surrender all to God in total trust, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, where there is a matter troubling me and I am anxious I surrender all to you, trusting you are in total control and, may the peace of God that surpasses human understanding cover me, this I pray in Jesus’s name!
