“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” ( Proverbs 16:3).
Planning is good as a way of life. Generally plans are premised on certain assumptions: the availability of funds, willingness of manpower; factors sometimes beyond one’s control. For example, as 2020 begun, who could have guessed there would come along a yearlong pandemic, paralyzing all business operations, by locking down people in their homes and behind closed borders.
That is why Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” This is all to emphasize that while we could all make plans, and however masterfully they are, in the end the power lies with God.
In our individual lives no one would argue against the wisdom of planning. But yet at the same time when one fails to realize or concede that there is a limit to all our plans such has lost the point. Plan we may; but we don’t have control of everything.
Whatever might be our plans, it is God who is in control. The Christian soldier knows that full well and takes comfort in the supreme knowledge that beyond all preparations for battle there is one who holds the key. As Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, creator of heaven and earth, as I start the year, may I remember that in the end you have the keys to bring success, and so I lay all my plans at your feet to guide them to success, thus I pray in Jesus’ name!
