“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you”– Psalm 63:3 (NIV).
In Mombasa, Kenya, one of the most visited tourist site, is Fort Jesus. Built in 1596 by the Portuguese, it still stands as a mighty and impenetrable fortress. Since it was raised there have been over 9 attempts of a certain power to take control of it. The Portuguese, Omanis and then the British have all fought at one point to take possession of Fort Jesus.
In the olden days houses around seacoast were largely built of stone, like Fort Jesus, such that when waves would hit they stood firm. Our faith in the Lord must also rise above all, just like Fort Jesus which has stood for over four centuries. If our faith is tossed by waves, then our anchor should be firmly in the Lord. As Lamentations 3:22-23 says “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is the faithfulness.”
Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I clothe myself in your steadfast love, rising above waves, like a fortress, this I pray in Jesus’s name.
