“I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and in every circumstances, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and in need” - Phil 4:12 (ESV).

Of the many aspects that appeal most about the Apostle Paul, was his flexibility and ability to adjust according to his situation and circumstances. Although trained at the feet of Gamaliel as a teacher of the law (Acts 22:3), the equivalent of a Law professor today, once he committed his life to Christ he never hung up on his past. Easily he became a traveling evangelist.

This new career often meant going through uncertain situations, where he was never sure of his boarding. Sometimes his life was at risk. “Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea” (2 Cor 11:25, NIV).

There were cases where the situation was such that he had to put his plans on hold and engage in a craft he had picked up somewhere to earn the means just to get by. This was tent making (Acts 18:3).

The flexibility of the Apostle Paul for the sake of the Gospel should encourage us not to be so stuck up that we can’t change even where the situation calls for adjustments. We should be open change where and when it becomes necessary for the sake of the Gospel.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to be flexible and open to change for your Gospels sake!
