God of Breakthroughs!
“Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert” ( Isiah 43:19).
Sometimes in life we encounter situations that seem impossible to overcome. These may come in the form of financial hardship, stalled career progress, strained marital relationships, difficult neighbors, or estranged relationships. The problem appears so large and insurmountable that it leaves us discouraged, anxious, and on the verge of giving up. In such moments, it is easy to wonder whether God is still at work.
When King David faced the formidable army of the Philistines, he did not rely on his military strength or experience. Instead, he turned to the Lord for guidance. “David inquired of the Lord, ‘Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?’” (2 Samuel 5:19). The Lord answered him, “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.” Trusting in God’s promise, David advanced into battle and routed the Philistine army. Reflecting on the victory, he declared, “As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me” (v.20). Because he sought the Lord first, God granted him a breakthrough.
Throughout Scripture we find countless examples of God bringing breakthroughs in seemingly impossible situations. When Peter was imprisoned and facing execution at the hands of Herod, the church earnestly prayed for him. God responded dramatically: “Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. ‘Quick, get up!’ he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists” (Acts 12:7). Likewise, when the Israelites found themselves trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s advancing army, God made a way where there seemed to be none. He parted the waters and opened a path to freedom and destiny.
Not all breakthroughs are material in nature. Some are spiritual. A family may struggle under the weight of generational poverty, alcoholism, chronic failure, broken relationships, or premature death. Such strongholds often require persistent prayer and complete dependence on God’s mercy and power. What appears impossible to man is never impossible with God.
Consider Elijah. Though God had promised rain, Elijah continued praying. “Seven times Elijah told his servant to go and look. Finally the seventh time, his servant reported, ‘A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea’” (1 Kings 18:43-44). Shortly afterward, the heavens opened and the rain came. Elijah’s persistence in prayer led to a breakthrough.
God delights in bringing breakthroughs because every victory glorifies His name. Therefore, do not be discouraged by the mountain standing before you today. Turn to the Lord, seek His face, and persevere in prayer. Trust Him for the breakthrough you need. In His perfect time and according to His perfect will, He will make a way.
Prayer:
Lord Almighty and Everlasting Father, today I come before You and cry out for Your hand of breakthrough upon every situation that troubles me and seems impossible to overcome. Break every barrier, open every closed door, and grant me victory over every challenge that stands in the way of Your purpose for my life. May every breakthrough You bring glorify Your holy name, and may my life become a testimony of Your power and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name I pray.
