The God Who Remembers Us

“He remembers His covenant forever, the word which He commanded, for a thousand generations.” — Psalm 105:8

Have you ever met someone you were certain would recognize you, only for them to pass by without even acknowledging your presence? Or perhaps you have gone through a difficult season, expecting a word of encouragement from someone you considered close, yet none came. Maybe there was a time when accusations were being hurled against you and not one of your friends stepped forward to defend you.

In moments like these, you may find yourself wondering, “Who remembers me?” Yet even when people forget, there is One who never does. The Almighty God remembers His children. He never overlooks us, never loses sight of us, and never forgets His promises concerning us.

Take Rachel who knew the pain of feeling forgotten. Unable to bear children, she watched as her sister Leah gave birth again and again while she remained childless. Her sorrow deepened with every passing year. Yet the Bible tells us, “Then God remembered Rachel; He listened to her and enabled her to conceive” (Genesis 30:22). She gave birth to a son and rejoiced, saying, “God has taken away my disgrace”’( vv 23).

Hannah experienced a similar struggle. She endured years of barrenness while her co-wife, Peninnah, mocked and provoked her relentlessly. Through tears and fervent prayer, Hannah poured out her heart before the Lord. In His perfect timing, God remembered her. Scripture records, “Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. So in the course of time Hannah conceived and bore a son” (1 Samuel 1:19–20).

To remember is to recall a person, an event, or a promise. Human beings often forget. Even those closest to us may fail to remember us in our moments of need. But God is not like man. He remembers.

After the floodwaters covered the earth and Noah waited patiently in the ark, “God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark” (Genesis 8:1). When the Israelites groaned under slavery in Egypt, “God heard their groaning and He remembered His covenant” (Exodus 2:24). The psalmist declares, “He has remembered His love and His faithfulness to Israel” (Psalm 98:3).

One of the greatest assurances we have is that God remembers us personally. He remembers our prayers, our tears, our faithfulness, and our acts of obedience. Through the prophet Isaiah, He gives this comforting promise: “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15)

Perhaps today you feel overlooked, abandoned, or forgotten. Maybe there is a prayer you have carried for years, a promise you are still waiting to see fulfilled, or a burden that no one else seems to understand. Take heart. There is a God who remembers. What others may overlook, He sees. What others may forget, He remembers. And in His perfect time, He will act according to His unfailing love and faithfulness.

Prayer: Lord Almighty Father, thank You for the assurance that You know each one of us personally and never forget us. When others overlook us, You still see us. When we feel abandoned, You remain near. For every burden I carry and every prayer I have placed before You, I trust that You remember and care deeply. Help me to wait patiently and confidently in Your perfect timing, knowing that You are the God who remembers. In Jesus’ name I pray!
