God’s Will That You Prosper!

“Abraham was now very old, and the LORD had blessed him in every way.” — Genesis 24:1

Being in a foreign land or facing famine did not prevent Isaac from experiencing God’s blessing, just as the Lord had promised. Scripture tells us: “Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him. The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy” (Genesis 26:12–13). Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his life, God ensured that Isaac prospered according to His divine purpose.

Isaac was not the only person whom God blessed materially. His father Abraham experienced the same favor. After leaving Egypt with Lot, the Bible says: “Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold” (Genesis 13:2). At one point, the possessions and livestock of both Abraham and Lot had increased so greatly that the land could no longer support them together.

While these examples demonstrate God’s material blessings, Scripture also reveals that His prosperity extends far beyond wealth. As 3 John 1:2 declares: “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” In other words, God’s promise of prosperity should not be viewed solely from a material perspective—a temptation especially common when one is experiencing financial lack. A person may have little materially yet be richly blessed with good health, faithful friends, peace of mind, and a thriving spiritual life.

Indeed, many people whom we admire from afar for their material success may secretly live lives marked by fear, restlessness, and emptiness. Some have accumulated wealth through costly compromises, betrayal of trusted associates, or ungodly means. King Ahaz of Judah prospered but after sacrificing his son in fire ( Chronicles 28:3). Yet Scripture warns us: “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Matthew 16:26).

God’s blessing of prosperity also comes with expectations. We see that Abraham’s blessings were closely tied to his obedience. Job experienced even greater prosperity at the end of his life because he remained faithful during seasons of intense suffering. God also told Joshua: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth… then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8). The principle is clear: obedience to God’s Word positions us to walk in His blessings.

Sometimes prosperity to us unfolds after a process. Joseph experienced great success only after passing through betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and imprisonment before ultimately becoming ruler in Egypt. Often, we may be eager to prosper in a particular way, while God is preparing our character to steward what He has planned for us.

God desires that you prosper in every area of your life. True prosperity is balanced—spiritual, physical, emotional, relational, and material. We should therefore avoid viewing prosperity from only one angle.

Prayer: Lord Almighty Father God, I thank You for Your hand of favor that enables me to prosper. Help me in all that I do to experience the fullness of Your blessings. May Your prosperity cover every area of my life—spiritually, physically, emotionally, and materially. Guard my heart from pride, and help me use every blessing You give me to serve others, share Your love, and bring glory to Your name. This I pray in Jesus’ name!
