“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous” (I John 2:1).

Courtroom dramas are well known. There are often three principal actors. There is alwsys the defendant on one side with his accusers on the other end standing before a judge. To aid the defendent is an Advocate who is there to counsel and plead his case before the judge. Virtually every client feels assured and safe with an Advocate there to plead and defend his case.

As Believers in Christ we are privileged to have an Advocate who is there always standing to plead and defend our case. He is the Lord Jesus Christ! And why does he matter! First, most of us have desires and needs. The Advocate we have in Jesus takes them before God. Secondly, in life, there are always those intent on snatching what God has rightfully given us. These are the “accusers of the brethren”! But the Advocate we have who is Jesus stands before our God and defends our case to the shame of these agents of the enemy.

Today, should you find yourself in a difficult situatiion, where you have a pressing need and are faced with false accusations of those who want to snatch what God has given you, know there is an Advocate ready and quick to stand to your defence.

Never hesitate to call upon that Advocate of yours - the Lord Jesus in all situations. “Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory”   ( Psalm 50: 15).

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, what a joy to know we have you as an Advocate who stands before our God up and ready to plead and defend our case to victory, and this we are thankful, this we pray in Jesus’s name.
