"Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down" - Rev 12:10 (NIV).

Growing up as children there is always that child who happens to be known for majoring in false accusations. Occasionally he has engaged in some forbidden act, but because he has one quick toungue he can manoeuvre himself out of a crisis with full denial by pointing to someone else. Even when the sugar he has licked is fingered all over, still he blusters, "It's not me but that one!"

In life that child continues to harass us, especially as believers in Christ. These days in a number of workplace it is common to find cases where an innoncent party is set up, blown up on a whistle, and with framed evidence, is thrown out of a job. Likewise we sometime see dedicated public officials who are trying to do some good smeared with dirt, linked to some ugly scandal, causing a loss of confidence and before one realises termination of their office.

One way the "devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8), is by majoring in false accusations. This he does with ease, for "there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies" (John 8:44).

Wherever there is a believer in Christ this "accuser of the brethren" will surface and throw about his made up dirt to cause distraction, weaken the faith of the believer. Using that evidence, he will galvanise support and does what he knows best, "kill and destroy" (John 10:10).

If you happen to find yourself is such a situation as often happens to many followers of Christ, do not be discouraged. "Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain" (I Cor 15:58). A day is coming soon when the accuser of brethren will be hurled down in the very depth of scorching fires, where his nature belongs.

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, wherever I find the accuser of brethren, may I know that his false testimony will be overcome for the truth in you will set us free (John 8:32); this I pray in Jesus's name.
