“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
Superheroes are a staple of the entertainment industry. Through popular archetypical characters like Batman we are usually feasted to larger than life figures with irrepressible energy. Almost every child who has been treated to such movies like Spiderman can imagine himself endowed too with those flying powers quite immune to any danger.
The real life is though different. Unlike the superheroes of our movies no one has such boundless energy we are so easily entertained with. Even the most amazing athletes like Usain Bolt eventually tire and hung up their shoes, or just fade away, their bodies much weakened. There is no real life as such which is ever on the high.
Jesus too faced moments of weakness. In fact, once, “he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will” ( Mathew 26: 39).
What do we learn from this? That life is not a movie; in the fallen world we live in, there are those low moments any can experience. And as was with Christ, where we too experience such low moments let us look up to God to strengthen us.
Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, in those moments where I am low and weak, I turn and look up to you, to give me all the strength I need for victory, this I pray in Jesus’ name!
