"For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you" ( Romans 12:3)

There was once a guest of honour whose seat was as expected raised at the head of the high table. However, upon arriving as he was led up he suddenly took the first empty seat he noticed. Everyone around protested! But he was gently prevailed upon that his seat belonged further up. It was a certain relief when he got up and settled at the head of the table.

Of course we all know that where this guest of honour hesitated to claim a high seat, we are used to all manner of officials these days who demand the right of way through dense traffic. Many times they do it without consideration of others insisting on parading their badges. But then once in a while a certain official is embarased when he is forced back into the line.

You might not be one of those - of course not!- but none of us would like being pushed back at the end of the line when we are busy strutting and bossing around. In Christ each one of us has a place of honour and there is no need to boss. Moreover while we may seem low we know who lifts us up. For "He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap, To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, And He set the world on them. ( 1 Samuel 2:8).

God has already destined upon you a high seat and all you need is to steadily walk with Him. Just as with that guest of honour He will lift you up and seat you at the high table.

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, when I am low you lift me up, and today I pray you lead me along to that high seat you have kept for me, this I pray in Jesus' name.
