The power of humility

"Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth" ( Numbers 12:3)

Moses is not someone who at once would strike you as humble. How could someone humble kill someone because of chancing up a quarrel and taking sides ( Exodus 2: 11-12). We know Moses in spite of his hesitation went up to Pharaoh and demanded, "Let my people go!" ( Exodus 5:1). That would take some courage, especially when you know the king with all his powers is not about to budge.

Perhaps these characteristics may not fit our idea of a humble man, but when we consider other circumstances of his life there we see a man of humility. When the Israelites rebelled and the Lord was about to wipe them off the earth, he, Moses, fell on his knees, and " sought the favor of the Lord his God. “Lord,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?" ( Exodus 32:11). It is Moses's humility and eagerness to fall on his knees before the Almighty God that saved a nation. "Then the Lord relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened" ( vv 14).

Humility has been described as the "quality of having a low level of one's importance"! The opposite of humility is pride. Humility helped to save an entire nation. Humility brings greatness. "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up" ( James 4:10).

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I come to you on my knees that you lift me up for you desire those that are humble, this I pray in Jesus's name.
