“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isiah 40:31).
Moses had a unique relationship with God, that it is written, “The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend” ( Exodus 33:11). There is an incident that might explain how this relationship deepened.
We begin by finding an impatient Moses who wanted to do things in his might. When once Moses saw a fellow Hebrew being mistreated, “Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand” ( Exodus 2:21). This was an impulsive act without seeking God first. The consequences were of Moses fleeing for his life in the desert. “When Pharaoh heard of this, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and went to live in Midian, where he sat down by a well” ( vv 15).
Out there Moses grew in faith and learnt to wait on God. This is where God found him. When one day while alone and tending sheep, “There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush” ( Exodus 3:2). The time had come for him to liberate the Hebrews from their oppression but at the prompting of the Lord!
Our lesson here is waiting on the Lord. A hurried Moses only got himself in trouble. The Moses who stepped back and waited on God had him reveal himself to him. “God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you” ( Exodus 3:14).
Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, so often we are hurried to do things in our might, but when we learn to wait on you, we see the might of your power, and so we pray to learn to wait on you for your glory, this I pray in Jesus’s name!

In the body of Christ every believer has a gift that contributes to making the church whole. There are those who are gifted at intercessory prayers. Others have been called to a pulpit ministry. Then there are those gifted at leading worship and praises. Some others have the gift of care and empathy. The gifts in the church are indeed endless.
One way to know your gift is being able to reflect on what burdens you most. For example, if you have a great feeling for people who are going through tribulations and need comfort then most probably yours is a gift of empathy and care. There are those with a burden to share the truth and theirs is the gift of teaching the Word.
When God gives us gift he also enables us. For example, one who has been gifted with praising and worshipping by singing would naturally have a way with his tongue. That one gifted with preaching has the talent to move listeners with words. God gives us gifts to build the body of believers.Do you know your gift?
