“and the two shall become one flesh, so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate” - Mark 8:10-9 (KJV)

In one city in China soon after cases of the corona virus went down, there was an invasion on the district court from estranged couples. They wanted out! The lockdown other than pulling many couples together instead had unfortunately torn them apart.

Locked up together in one place for month on end suddenly couples had discovered how little they had in common. It was not the sun they looked out for to escape the indoors once things let up. They wanted to escape each other’s company.

Incidentally many had started this journey of living together as friends. The glue that unites any couple is friendship. Friends like to spend time with each other. Friends play with each other. Friends talk to each other a lot. And this of course does not mean there are no squabbles among friends but since they like each other they can easily ride over intrusive conflicts.

Yet having ceased being friends but roommates the lockdown proved to be such a nightmare. For who likes spending time locked up with a restless acquaintance, and with little in common?

One of the secret to a successful marriage is friendship. So let us all in our families work on being just friends before another lockdown makes us want to sprint away fast from each other once the doors are let loose.

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that I am a friend to those you have chosen I live with.
