“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that though he was rich yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty you may become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9)

Most of us tend to have what one may call baggage excess. These are clothes and footwear that we can go through a year without ever using. They sit in our drawers and we sometime fight for space. There are clothes we long outgrew, shoes out of fashion.

Meanwhile, as we crowd our lives with all these things that fill up space somewhere lies someone in desperate need of such. Today one of the most lucrative markets is the sale of old stuff from the West. Bales of used clothes are always making it to the African Market which in some respect turn our nation to become more like a dumping ground. Why? What no longer matters to someone out there for others it is gold.

So how about if some of us who are blessed could also put aside a basket where we dump those clothes and footwear we hardly use. Not to profit from, like our secular western friends, but show the love of Jesus. At the end of the year we could look for a neighbor out there who might need them. Especially in the villages where so many folks go for holidays. Wouldn’t that glorify God and perhaps lead someone to Christ?

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray that I practice putting aside things I do not need to bless others in need.
