“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them” ( Psalm 34:7)

The physical world which we inhabit often gives us a false impression that that there is all to life. No wonder many often relapse into the danger of seeing and interpreting things solely based on what they see with their naked eyes. Yet around us are other beings at work, like angels.

The Bible reveals many cases of angels not only operating around us but physically intervening in our human affairs. When Abraham sent away Hagar after the birth of his son Ishmael to settle a family dispute, “God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there” ( Gen 21:17). The boy was saved with angels providing him water.

Once when the King of Aram invaded Israel, on seeing the advancing troops all were terrified, “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha” ( 2 Kings 6: 15-17). Angels had come to rescue.

When the Apostle Peter was held in prison, “The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists” ( Acts 12:6-7). Though surrounded by “four squads of four soldiers each” the angel of the Lord overpowered all and delivered him to safety.

Just as it were, it is important to know and remember what you see with your physical eyes is not all there is around you. There is a mighty army of angels assigned to you as a Believer in Christ which you should ever call upon for protection through faith in Jesus!

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, because you care for me you have surrounded me with an army of angels whom I now call upon for protection through all situations, and this I pray in Jesus’s name!

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15)

Perhaps one of the most inspiring passages in the Bible with enduring lessons is where Moses pleads to Pharaoh to let the Jews go. Instead Pharaoh dared Moses if he had the power as that of a king. Challenged to “perform a miracle” Moses turned to Aaron who threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs (Exodus 7: 9-12).

What we see here is the presence of occult powers in high places, as is true even today. A common mistake by some is to deny the existence of the occult behind certain thrones or power centers, especially in instances where we find those putting on a genteel manner of social respectability. There are also those who through their education and confined exposure to the spirit realm of things, doubt the existence of occult powers. The reality is that in the world we live in the enemy is much at work. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

In this passage we see that while Pharaoh did release his snakes the staff God had placed in the hands of his messenger, Moses, was far greater and swallowed all. Here is the point. As believers we do have a far greater and mighty power to protect us from any attacks of the enemy. It is the blood of the lamb. As it is written, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony...” (Revelation 12:11).

Today whatever snakes you may encounter from anywhere be assured that you have a far greater power than of the enemy. It is the blood of Jesus. As His word says, “call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me” (Psalm 50:15).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I pray for protection from the attacks of the enemy by the blood of the lamb, this I pray in Jesus’name.
