Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty. "What are you, O mighty mountain?” ( Zechariah 4:6).

When Queen Esther was crowned in place of Vashti who had disobeyed the King’s command she had no idea what she was up to ( Esther 1-2). No sooner had she sat on the throne than when she got wind of that there was a plot to exterminate all her people: “If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them (Esther 3:9).

Once her Uncle Mordecai, got hold of the King’s order, he alerted her. Fortunately, Esther did not waste time. “Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16).

There was a custom that no one could meet with the King uninvited. “All the king’s officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that they be put to death” ( Esther 4:11). But having spent time with God, armed with prayers of her warriors, she dared. Now, instead of being repulsed once the King saw her enter his presence, he opened up to her, “Then the king asked, “What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given you” ( Esther 5:3).

Esther revealed the wicked plot of Herman and ultimately the king ordered his own execution instead of his original idea ( Esther 7).

So, what do we see here? Esther walked with God and drawing on that confidence a law that had been passed to exterminate her peoples was turned against its promoter. There, too, can be events that crosses our lives and the enemy appears to be too powerful with all the means apparently in his favor. But the God who rescued Esther’s people is the very same one eager and able to turn an impossible situation in our favor. This is why we walk not in our strength but in His power.

Prayer today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, for any situation or power that sets itself up against your will in my life, I draw confidence from you and arrest it to bring me victory, this I pray in Jesus’s name.

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15)

Perhaps one of the most inspiring passages in the Bible with enduring lessons is where Moses pleads to Pharaoh to let the Jews go. Instead Pharaoh dared Moses if he had the power as that of a king. Challenged to “perform a miracle” Moses turned to Aaron who threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs (Exodus 7: 9-12).

What we see here is the presence of occult powers in high places, as is true even today. A common mistake by some is to deny the existence of the occult behind certain thrones or power centers, especially in instances where we find those putting on a genteel manner of social respectability. There are also those who through their education and confined exposure to the spirit realm of things, doubt the existence of occult powers. The reality is that in the world we live in the enemy is much at work. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

In this passage we see that while Pharaoh did release his snakes the staff God had placed in the hands of his messenger, Moses, was far greater and swallowed all. Here is the point. As believers we do have a far greater and mighty power to protect us from any attacks of the enemy. It is the blood of the lamb. As it is written, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony...” (Revelation 12:11).

Today whatever snakes you may encounter from anywhere be assured that you have a far greater power than of the enemy. It is the blood of Jesus. As His word says, “call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me” (Psalm 50:15).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I pray for protection from the attacks of the enemy by the blood of the lamb, this I pray in Jesus’name.
