“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” – Prov (19:21).

Have you ever had a case you felt so strong about that no matter all the warnings forbidding, you were all bent to push ahead. Yes, even when God made it clear you should hold on, but still you decided to just go ahead. You were in a bit of a hurry. But then what happened!

There is the story of the final missionary journey of Apostle Paul. Arrested and now taken to Rome to stand trial before Ceaser, Paul had a premonition from God concerning the journey. He decided to warn the centurion under whose guard he was and the ship owner of the danger ahead, advising them not to sail. “Men, I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also” (Acts 27:10).

But the centurion and the ship owner, together with the ship captain, who possibly were more conscious of beating a deadline and suffering as little loss as possible caused by delays, which might affect their earnings, ignored a good warning from God. They pressed ahead.
Now no sooner had they sailed than the ship run into a huge storm. “Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the Northeaster, swept down from the island. The ship was caught by the storm..” (vv 14-15) Later the ship did run aground (vv 41). Fortunately all would be spared of total destruction. But once there was calm, “Paul stood up before them and said: “Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss” (vv 21).

The truth of this is that sometimes it is best to wait on God. There are those matters which everyone faces once in a while and one feels he must go ahead no matter all the warning signs from God. It could be moving to a new address. Perhaps it is launching a new venture. In some cases it is setting out on a new journey of life. And God is saying wait.

Rather than pushing ahead, against all advice, why not wait on God. The cost from a mud rush folly might come at a great cost. “…but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:33, ESV).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, in all my affairs, may I learn to wait on you, for when I go with you, I know victory will comes, this I pray in Jesus’s name!

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15)

Perhaps one of the most inspiring passages in the Bible with enduring lessons is where Moses pleads to Pharaoh to let the Jews go. Instead Pharaoh dared Moses if he had the power as that of a king. Challenged to “perform a miracle” Moses turned to Aaron who threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs (Exodus 7: 9-12).

What we see here is the presence of occult powers in high places, as is true even today. A common mistake by some is to deny the existence of the occult behind certain thrones or power centers, especially in instances where we find those putting on a genteel manner of social respectability. There are also those who through their education and confined exposure to the spirit realm of things, doubt the existence of occult powers. The reality is that in the world we live in the enemy is much at work. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

In this passage we see that while Pharaoh did release his snakes the staff God had placed in the hands of his messenger, Moses, was far greater and swallowed all. Here is the point. As believers we do have a far greater and mighty power to protect us from any attacks of the enemy. It is the blood of the lamb. As it is written, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony...” (Revelation 12:11).

Today whatever snakes you may encounter from anywhere be assured that you have a far greater power than of the enemy. It is the blood of Jesus. As His word says, “call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me” (Psalm 50:15).

Prayer for today: Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, today I pray for protection from the attacks of the enemy by the blood of the lamb, this I pray in Jesus’name.
