Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! - 2 Cor 5:17 (NIV)

Back in the old days it was common for Born Again followers of Jesus (Balokole) to share their testimony in public places, especially public transport. They would share freely how they had accepted Christ and had transformed their lives. But these days one also often comes across streets preachers calling on masses to accept Christ. They do not share much of their lives, how changed there are, like the old Balokole.

The old Balokole brethren valued most a changed lifestyle as the best evidence of Christ work in one’s life. If one had been a serial adulterer, lost helplessly on drink and involved in corruption the evidence was how such gave up the old ways for a new life in Christ. The brethren would take great time counting how they are no longer inclined to their old sinful ways.

Today we need to hear that message too. So often all we hear is what Christ can do to help one achieve or acquire something. In some places there is quite a bit of stressing becoming materially prosperous. Nothing wrong there and surely God does bless His followers. But the greatest miracle of Christ is to come into a lost life and change it where no one could. The alcoholic gives up an addiction which no cure could find because of the power of Christ.

Prayer for Today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray that my life shows the change brought over by accepting and knowing you!

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its part were many they form one body” (2 Cor 12:12)

In the body of Christ every believer has a gift that contributes to making the church whole. There are those who are gifted at intercessory prayers. Others have been called to a pulpit ministry. Then there are those gifted at leading worship and praises. Some others have the gift of care and empathy. The gifts in the church are indeed endless.

One way to know your gift is being able to reflect on what burdens you most. For example, if you have a great feeling for people who are going through tribulations and need comfort then most probably yours is a gift of empathy and care. There are those with a burden to share the truth and theirs is the gift of teaching the Word.
When God gives us gift he also enables us. For example, one who has been gifted with praising and worshipping by singing would naturally have a way with his tongue. That one gifted with preaching has the talent to move listeners with words. God gives us gifts to build the body of believers.

Do you know your gift? If so, how are you using it for the building of the church of Christ?

Prayer for today: Lord Father in heaven, today I pray that you enable me use the gifts you have given me for the building of the church,
this I pray in Jesus’ name.
