God the Keeper of Promises!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

As Abraham journeyed through unknown lands, God gave him a remarkable promise: “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:1–2). If you follow the history of the Israelites, you can clearly observe that special hand of blessing upon Abraham’s descendants. In many fields and professions, their remarkable influence can be traced back to God’s covenant promise.

Long before Christ appeared on earth, another promise had already been declared: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Though it took nearly 700 years for this promise to be fulfilled, God remained faithful to His word.

Sometimes God’s promises are fulfilled quickly and without delay, as when Jesus assured the repentant thief on the cross: “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). Yet other promises come after seasons of hardship and perseverance, as was the case with David. Though anointed by Samuel to become king of Israel, he first endured years of struggle and conflict with Saul’s household. Nevertheless, God’s promise eventually came to pass: “Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth… Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever” (2 Samuel 7:9,16).

As a child of God, you too have been given precious promises, including the assurance that God has good plans for your life. Hold firmly to those promises without wavering, for ours is a God who never fails and always fulfills His word.

Prayer Today:
Lord Almighty God, I thank You for the good promises You have spoken over my life. Help me to hold onto them with unwavering faith, knowing that You are a God who never fails and always brings Your promises to fulfillment. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
