“The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” — Psalm 27:1

There is something about darkness that makes it one of the least desired experiences. When we encounter darkness, we often feel uncertain and vulnerable because the way ahead is hidden from us. Darkness can symbolize confusion, fear, danger, and the inability to see clearly.

In the physical world, darkness can make even a familiar path seem threatening. A person walking in darkness may fear stumbling into a hidden trap, losing the way, or being ambushed unexpectedly. But when light shines, the path becomes visible, obstacles can be avoided, and confidence is restored.

The opposite of darkness is light. Light reveals what is hidden, provides direction, and dispels fear. In the same way, God’s light brings clarity to our lives. When Jesus came into the world, He brought light that frees us from spiritual darkness. He declared, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).

This means that when we embrace Christ, His light guides our steps and helps us see the way forward. He illuminates our path when life feels uncertain and gives us the wisdom to make godly decisions.

In earlier days of seafaring, one of the most welcome sights for sailors was the beam of light from a lighthouse. For a ship lost on the high seas, the appearance of that light brought relief and hope. It signaled safety, direction, and the assurance that the ship could find its way home.

Life can sometimes feel like a journey through darkness. We may encounter setbacks, confusion, or situations where the way ahead is not clear. We live in a world where there is much darkness—abuse of power, corruption, injustice, and disregard for what is right. Such realities can be discouraging and overwhelming.

Yet, in the midst of this darkness, God has given us His light through His Son, Jesus Christ. His light shines in the darkness and cannot be overcome by it. When we feel lost, confused, or discouraged, we can turn to Christ and find hope, direction, and peace.

If you feel lost in a world that no longer makes sense, do not lose hope. God’s light is able to penetrate even the darkest situations and make the way clear. Embrace the light of Christ today, and allow Him to guide you safely through every challenge.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, in moments when I encounter darkness and the way ahead seems unclear, I come to You and embrace Your light. Shine Your truth into my heart, guide my steps, and remove fear and confusion from my life. Help me to trust that You are leading me safely, even when I cannot see the entire path. May Your light fill me with peace, hope, and confidence in Your guidance. In Jesus’ name I pray!
