Lord Father God of Abraham, maker of heaven and earth, we thank you for the preceding month as we now welcome fresh October. Take us through the new month with your mighty hand that guided the Israelites through the deserts on to the promised land. For you say, “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” ( Deuteronomy 31:8). And wherever our paths takes any of us, may your word hold us, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” ( Psalm 23:4). Bless us and our loved ones with your favor, for your word says, “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field” ( Deuteronomy 28:1-2). You who has allowed nations to be and marked our boundaries we pray too for our dear nations and places of stead and work especially for good and noble leadership as exemplified by prophet Samuel, who said, “Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the Lord and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these things, I will make it right” ( I Samuel 12:3). May this month be one of spectacular blessings, just as it is written, “then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine” ( Proverbs 3:10). May all the works of the enemy who comes to “kill and destroy” be exposed and arrested in Jesus’s name, for you say, “Now this I know: The LORD gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand” ( Psalm 20:6). To all this we thankfully pray in the name above all names, of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth!
